fair play. He was the hero of Clarence E. Mulford's novels in the 1920s through

B. DeMille, eventually building a character strong enough to last through sixty-six feature-length films. When it came to being a visionary,
Bill Boyd was no slouch, either. Capitalizing on the immense popularity of his
Western Hero alter-ego, he secured the rights to the movies and recast them as a
television series starting in 1950. Hopalong Cassidy remains one of the most
popular and well loved characters ever to come out of the Golden Era for the
Western genre.
